Due to the fact that our students attend a rural school, they do not have access to diverse cultural educational experiences. As teachers, we try to provide our students with opportunities to learn, create, and display various art elements. An example of our art education is presented in our second grade art show each year. Students are asked to learn about and produce work based on famous artists of the past. Some of the artists and schools of art we study are Vincent van Gogh, Picasso, and Georgia O'Keefe. While studying famous historical artists, we require our students to use a plethora of art media tools, such as watercolors, modeling clay, and paint. All students need the opportunity to express their emotions and explore cultural worldviews. Our art curriculum gives them these opportunities while also fostering creativity and individuality.
