I am so excited to have the opportunity to teach my students about some very important teen-related topics by reading "Speak" by Laurie Halse Anderson together! Through this novel, my students will learn the effects of bullying and isolation in high school and how we as a school community can prevent those events from taking place by being kind to one another. This novel will not only help my students in their understanding of figurative language and the theme of coming of age but will also teach my students about empathy and self-awareness. This will be our first novel of study for the year and will be a great way to get my students interested in reading at the beginning of their high school careers!
