NGSS requires teaching through phenomena which can best be facilitated with hands-on investigations that are illustrated by the students. Large dry erase boards can be used to make particulate drawings of the chemical reactions students perform in the lab as well as drawing Lewis Structures and drawing bonds being formed and broken for enthalpy calculations. Vernier colorimeters are necessary for two of the sixteen required labs for the AP chemistry curriculum and will be used to enhance Pre-AP solutions studies. Larger classroom sizes require the addition of more colorimeters to replace the ones that no longer work and accommodate more students.
