Math is like a foreign language to many students. Add in having a disability, and the challenge becomes exponentially more daunting. Unlike English, Algebra, and Geometry are no longer merely 1 + 1 = 2. Suddenly, letters and numbers are mixed together in a jumble. Graphing calculators take math from a jumble of letters and numbers to a visual result that my students can see, manipulate, and understand. My students can take the visual experience and begin to bring together what they see and what they know. Graphing calculators give them hands-on experiences that are crucial to their understanding, growth, and achievement.
