As I looked into ideas for an Action Research Proposal, I stumbled upon the thought of students wearing "science gear" whenever the students are observing, measuring, and collecting data. Students, particularly in urban areas, still see scientists as crazy old man in a lab coat and goggles. The lab aprons and safety glasses will allow my students to change their mentalities about being scientists. Students seeing themselves as scientists in lab aprons and safety glasses will shape their mentality about their abilities both in and beyond the classroom. My students will wear their science gear during lab activities, such as paper towel absorbance, Starburst rock cycle, catapults, and egg drop challenges. I want my students to see themselves as capable scientists inside the classroom and, hopefully, beyond!
