Technology is moving arts education beyond the classroom and making it easier for artists to make art that they can publish and share. My students will benefit greatly from iPads for research, art history, interest driven arts learning, sharing, and critique. My young artists will use the digital technology center to exchange ideas, critique their peers art work, photograph their masterpieces, write their artist statements, explore careers in art and graphic design and upload their artwork to ARTSONIA, the world's largest student art museum. Artists may use technology to view directed drawing tutorials and videos. By using the apps (DrawingBoxFree, KaleidoPaint, ComicTouch2, Cartoonatic, etc.), students will create, paint, draw their own comic strips and cartoons, which would include creative writing. Many of my students do not have the opportunity to visit museums. With the addition of iPads, my artists will be able to virtually explore art history through the Getty, National Gallery, and The Metropolitan, to name a few, which all have public domains. My special needs students are mainstreamed and will benefit from the use of technology with peer leaders, authentic collaboration, intensified curiosity and uninhibited creativity through the addition of digital resources. The tools of technology are creativity triggers that help students develop creative thinking and other essential tools. My artists will benefit from iPads to ensure they do not lag behind when it comes to creativity. It is vital for their all around development.
