Flexible seating allows students to make choices that work for them. My students are constantly on the move-some choosing to work in pairs, some alone, and some in small groups. When we take notes or watch a video, students sit on the tables, on the floor, and some sit on our current bean bag chairs, which have been re-sewn several times and are now almost flat. I have seen first hand this past school year how beneficial flexible seating can be in the classroom. My students were engaged and often times very excited that they had the option to sit on the floor in a bean bag chair. My 8th grade students in particular enjoyed these during their Reader's Choice time. They could relax and just read. I have selected a few bean bag chairs for my classroom. These are wonderful to have as they can be easily moved around the room and students can easily work independently or pull it right up to a table to work in a small group. I am excited to add these to my room!
