I am a Head Start teacher in a public school that serves inner city students. My classroom consists of 20 students ages 4-5 years old.
As a classroom teacher it is necessary for me to create an environment that is conducive to the uniqueness of each child. I accomplish this by creating a classroom community that teaches students to be Thinkers, Communicators, Risk Takers, Caring, Open Minded and principled. I teach my students how to be empathetic towards each other and appreciate the diversity within our classroom community.
Equipping my classroom with hands on developmentally appropriate materials will help to ensure their future academic success. I want to create an environment in which my students can take charge of their own learning through my facilitation of higher order thinking and equipment and materials that will scaffold their learning.
