My students love to read for pleasure and they are reflective thinkers. In our classroom, we read narrative and informational text while analyzing their structure, elements, and author’s craft. We also love sharing our favorite books using multi-media presentations. My students love to explore social issues and discover solutions for real-world issues. My student authors compose poetry, narrative stories, speeches, argumentative essays. Inquiry-based learning, reading strategies, and visible thinking strategies are incorporated in the various areas of our class which will enable students to be reflective, independent learners. The addition of technology to our classroom will enhance their skills. Additionally, my students will be producing the school yearbook. The addition of technology in our classroom will promote reading for literary analysis, improve their exploratory research techniques, and revolutionize and simplify the writing processes through Makerspace. Students will take charge of their learning and will have the ability to self-monitor and work at their own pace. The educational experiences they will acquire through the use of technology will help them gain marketable skills needed to become successful in the future. Many of our students have limited access to technology at home or no technology at all. At the same time, my classroom also includes special needs students, as well as ELL students. I am also leading the Yearbook Publications class and for the first time in over 25 years, we are updating technology for our lab.
