I would like for each of my students to have a pedometer. I want to go outside for a few minutes each day with the students to either walk or run, then back inside and do math activities and other academic activities with the data. Students will focus in class better after having some time to run and enjoy the fresh air outside. We will use this data when we cover the statistics standards and will use the data when we talk about unit rate. We will calculate miles per hour and kilometers per hour and work with converting units. We will also cover social studies standards as we look at a map of the world and find places of historical significance and determine how long it would take us to get there by foot, by plane, or by car. These pedometers will truly provide students with cross-curricular connections.
