When my students go to the school library they cannot check out the grade-level books that are available. They are not reading at their grade level, some of them read far below grade level. For junior high student's this can be embarrassing when they have to check books out that are written for a 3rd grader. My students feel inferior when they have to read books with such a lower reading level; therefore, smothering their enthusiasm to read. I did some research and found this wonderful company known as Orca. This company specializes and caters to students who have high interest, but low reading level. Having the ability to read Orca Sounding books will boost their interest in reading again, and allow them to escape into the adventures of the characters they are reading about. By creating a personal library in my room I can create a safe haven for my students to read books they are comfortable with. Reading is an important factor in the development of my student's minds. Having a set of books dedicated to students who have a high interest in learning but struggle to be proficient will only heighten their self-esteem.
