My students have received training in stage combat already, but these materials will allow them to take their combats to another level. We have trained in single-handed weapons like rapiers and short swords, but the longswords and shields will mean that they can now work out two-handed routines and present them to the public. We will be taking our combats public at a school Renaissance Festival on November 17th of this year. Students will be creating unique characters and original choreographed combats for the entertainment of the crowd- much like a Medieval Times show. The blank shields that I have chosen will be painted with individual crests that the students will research and design, so that our presentations can be one of a kind. The arming caps are just padded cotton caps that go under helmets in order to pad the top of the head. We purchased three authentic Norman helmets last year, and used toboggans under them for arming caps. This year we want to do it right.
