My students are still learning to use language to communicate and to learn. They are excited to be in the classroom and exploring new topics, but sometimes language is just too overwhelming. Hands-on materials will help to clarify some basic math concepts and help them to grow as mathematicians while they are learning language associated with these topics. My students are still learning how to stay focused and work independently. Tiggly math accessories for the iPad will allow my students to work independently on the Ipads without constant hand over hand teacher support. The accessories will guide students through working on 1:1 correspondence and shape recognition. The Early Math Activity Center contains attribute sorting activities that will allow my students to work with hands-on materials that teach the concepts of sorting by size, sorting by color, and creating a pattern. The Measurement Instant Learning Center will have students learning the early stages of measurement, by using materials they are familiar with to measure common objects that they see each day. In my classroom, we are teaching the earliest concepts of math, and in order for students to be successful with this, they need to have access to many modes of learning. With the help of these materials, my students will be able to study math concepts with visual, auditory, and tactile support.
