At our school, each child receives a Chromebook. We use these daily for intervention programs and to achieve our learning objective. The Chromebooks are a vital part of the learning process. Every year we request, on the school supply list, that students bring a pair of headphones. Unfortunately, due to a majority of the class being economically disadvantaged, the students either do not bring a pair or purchase the cheapest pair they can find. The cheap earbuds the students bring break within a week. We are asking for a class set of headphones so everyone has a working pair to use. All of the programs we use have a speaking component that is necessary to use the program. This is especially important to our dyslexic children who have accommodations that everything be read to them. Benchmark assessments are taken on Chromebooks and need to be read to the dyslexic students. This cannot be done without headphones.
