My goal as an ELA, English teacher is to inspire my students to love reading. I find that males at our school do not enjoy reading. So, for the coming year, I picked the adventurous book, Peter and the Starcatcher, to start the school year off. The hope is to encourage all of my students, especially the males, throughout the year to enjoy reading. After we have thoroughly explored the book, we will go to the play, based on the book; this is where they will be able to have an informative discussion with the actors and ask questions based on what they read. Many of the students have never had an opportunity to attend a play. I hope this experience of reading the book and then being able to compare it to the play will inspire an interest in reading.
