The biggest challenge my students face is that our community is economically disadvantaged. Resources, books in particular, are scarce. Our nearest bookstore is roughly 50 miles away. I do not have class sets of any novels for our curriculum. Our classroom does contain a few textbooks, but they are much older than the students I teach and are extremely tattered or missing pages. Depending on the size of my class, I may or may not have enough books for each child to have one. My students desperately need access to novels. There are so many wonderful things I would love to teach, but I am unable to do so because of a lack of resources. Our students shouldn't be at a disadvantage because of the economic disadvantages faced by our community.
