Utilizing Scholastic News in my classroom on a weekly basis will provide my students the opportunity to learn new things about the world and their environment. These articles will teach my first graders about school rules, science, social studies and more! I feel that using Scholastic News in my classroom will foster a love of reading as we explore these topics together and my students will gain various skills by reading grade-level text. These magazines will allow us to come together and first discuss the vocabulary words students will come across. Through these discussions students will learn even more on these topics. As a class, we then use the online version to explore the newspaper, watch the learning videos and play the skill based games. After, students are given the opportunity to explore their very own magazine at their seat spot and learn more. When told they can keep their magazine their faces are priceless!
