When my project is fully funded, my students will have access to several flexible seating options that allow them to move while they learn. Not every student learns best while sitting in a metal chair for hours at a time. In fact, research shows this is not how students learn. Students learn best when they are comfortable, can purposefully use their energy, and work in a position that meets their physical needs. It's very important in the classroom for students to have a choice. Studies have shown that choices improve student engagement and motivation! I believe that all students should have a choice of where they sit in the classroom, or where they learn best! By choosing a seat such as a wiggle seat or a stability ball, students can focus more on their education. Not only will flexible seating help improve student achievement through enhanced learning, but my students' physical health will also be improved.
