The students learn the 12-bar blues in conjunction with jazz and rock music. This year, we used regular Orff instruments to accompany ourselves on the 12-bar progression but this proved challenging as the students struggled to know which note to play when on instruments they had rarely, if ever, seen before. The chime bars will simplify the chord progression and help students find more instant success when performing and composing their own 12-bar blues. The chime bars will also provide a fuller sound than the Orff instruments which will function well in keeping the students together as an ensemble. These instruments also open the door to the possibility of performing various rounds, accompanying various literature and even creating our own multi-layer tracks. The benefits and uses for these chime bars are exponential for our classroom.
