Having individual copies of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone will allow our class to explore the novel and the themes within it. Individual copies allow students to customize their reading experience. They can use sticky notes to mark vocabulary words, parts they didn’t understand, or parts they want to discuss with the class. Having individual copies also allows me to help individualize instruction. I can let some students read on their own while I read with a small group of students to offer more support. My hope is that these books will be another way to bring my students together. It offers many opportunities to talk about difficult topics like loss of parents and unkind peers. It also gives students more outlets and inspiration for their own creativity. All while I am covering many state standards.
