My 4th graders are given the option to sit anywhere in the room to complete various tasks throughout the day, including Independent Reading and Writing. On any given day, students are often found on the rug more than at their desks. Hence, the desperate need for a new rug. We meet daily for our Morning Meeting and Writer's Workshop, etc. If my project is funded, we will also receive an easel, which doubles as a dry erase board and a spot to create flip charts / anchor charts. This will go hand-in-hand with the rug, as we will be working collaboratively to create many anchor charts for Reading and Writing.
Having a central location where all students can gather in comfort is essential in the elementary classroom. The carpet area should engage students and help create a sense of community when they are working together. This particular carpet design of the United States is age appropriate and will help students develop an understanding of geography in the world they live in. The rug we currently have has seen better days, and was handed down to me from a 2nd grade teacher.
Your generosity would go a long way toward creating a comfortable, engaging and collaborative learning space for these amazing 4th graders. It is a teacher's wish to be able to provide all students with the necessary tools to grow as learners.
