I am asking for a class set of Margot Lee Shetterly's novel, Hidden Figures. It is my hope, since the entire 8th grade team takes a role in the development of reading, that we will be able to encourage cross-curricular learning. Our math teacher, with this novel, will be able to connect his content's principles and connect it with literature and real life. This would also be a valuable resources because most of the novels in the 8th grade curriculum have predominately white, male heroes. It will be empowering for my students to see a strong, female, black protagonist (especially one in the sciences!).
