Providing students with diverse literature such as Freedom's School, by Lesa Klein-Branson, and Esperanza Rising, by Pam Munoz Ryan, will open doors for them in many ways. Books donated will allow students to participate in a county wide competition, creating a sense of teamwork, ownership, and purpose. Comprehension and analytical thinking skills will be developed as students participate in rich discussion. The reading selections will allow opportunities for growth in all areas of academic curriculum. When our book club has finished competition, the reading selections will be donated to the school library, allowing all students from all grade levels access to rich literary experiences.
