Next year our school is getting iPads for each student in third grade through a digital conversion initiative. Right now, each student has a desk and chair. We have bouncy bands, but students are still wiggly and being wiggly on an "old-school" chair just isn't safe. Completely transforming our classroom into an environment with flexible seating options will help students stay focused, engaged and comfortable. The flexible seating options also allow for more space when doing an activity that requires a classroom transformation (such as a beach themed day, non-fiction text featuring surgery, etc.). We have experimented with some flexible seating options this year and students absolutely love it. We have seen a drastic improvement in focus, comfort and engagement. To allow students to wiggle a little, I am asking for four "stabili T-stools". These stools will promote core stability and allow students to be moving in a safe way. Lap desks will be helpful to provide an option for students to sit on the floor while still having good posture. The lap trays will allow students to use some of the flexible seating options we already have, while being able to have a hard surface to write on.
