Providing my students with seating choices such as using Bouncy Bands on their chairs, Wobble Cushions on seats, and Portable Lap Desks around the room, allow them to take more ownership for their learning to figure out what works best for them as they work to fulfill their greatest potential. For example, students can easily take the portable desks anywhere around the room to work either individually or collaboratively in a small group. Sitting in one place in traditional desks and chairs for much of the day is very difficult for many of my students. Traditional desks and chairs just don’t always work. For many, working on the floor or in some alternative type of seating is more comfortable and allows them to focus better. I want my classroom to be a place where my students are motivated to do their best work. Giving my students different choices for seating will help my classroom be just that!
