These students live in a very small, rural town with very low income for many families. Our community strives to help all of our students at our school. They recently purchased supplies for all students in grades k-5 to help with the costs that many of these families find difficult to buy at the beginning of school. However, they can only do so much. Around 60-70% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunches at our school. Job opportunities are not in abundance and most families live below the poverty line. With the numerous backgrounds our students come from, they face many challenges at home and school. A new laptop would be a wonderful and much needed addition to my classroom. We currently have two desktop computers that are in need of replacing as well. This does not allow students to rotate through science lab with very much frequency. With this new laptop, more children could do research for science class/lab, complete our science center activities, and complete our technology standards set by the state. Many students in my class have no access to technology at home. Our school is slowly working to increase the technology in our school. Our students in grades K-5 share ONE rolling laptop cart for 6 grades (12 classes). It is a treat when we are able to use the cart ! Although computers are not the sole method I use for instruction, they are becoming increasingly important to teach with and use. Please consider donating to my project to enrich these students' education. Thank you so much for your help !
