Flexible seating allows students to focus on their work by choosing the best working position for them. Giving students the choice to sit on a ball, the floor, a stool or a chair helps them take responsibility for their learning and helps them gain independence. When students are free to choose the seating option that works best for them most often they will make a good decision. During independent times student can choose how and where they would like to sit while completing their work. Students may choose to work at the picnic table, sit on a pillow on the floor, on our reading bench or bounce on a ball while at a table. The opportunities are endless! Offering many different types of seating allows me to meet the needs of all of my students. When given a choice on where to work, my students are less distracted by peers, more engaged in their work and more successful. The products I selected will help me create a classroom that meets the needs of ALL students. This project will increase my students independence, responsibility and engagement of my students!
