My students are great kids, in spite of the obstacles they face and what others have told them they cannot do. Some of them have always struggled in science, so they have mentally shut down when it comes to science. For many of the students, this will be the only chemistry class they ever take, and it is only because it is a required course do they bother walking in the door. Many of them just want someone to believe in them, support them, and be genuine with them. However, make no mistake: they are typical teenagers!
