My first-grade students are in need of iPads (10) and a charging cart. We are an International Baccalaureate School (IB) and these iPads would help to enhance their learning experience and make connections globally. Students receiving an IB education receive a very unique education encouraging our scholars to think independently and become culturally aware. We prepare them to be engaged with people in an increasingly globalized, rapidly changing world. My scholars would have immediate access to other students across the globe to learn about lifestyles and cultures. The gift of 10 iPads would allow them to tap into an unlimited amount of resources when researching information. With an iPad they can share their learning through videos, with photos, writings, creating a keynote or slideshow. Additionally, in my classroom we have a “Wonder Wall”. When scholars have questions, they are put it on the wall. Then as a class, we research together, capturing as many questions as possible. This new technology would allow students to immediately research their questions and maybe instead of questions on the “Wonder Wall” they can begin placing information, and facts on the wall for discussion. I feel this would really enhance their learning. They will be able to access information from all over the world, which is what we encourage. Students would have a voice and a choice in how they learn, which would put the power of learning their hands.
