For the past two years, I have started the school year reading the book, Wonder, aloud to my class. It is an inspiring and easy to relate to book about fifth grade students learning to accept and befriend a new student who looks very different from them. Reading this book helps my students to learn about kindness, empathy, friendship, and perseverance in the face of adversity. It sets a tone of kindness for our classroom and helps to instill a sense of community in my students. I would like to have a class set of the book so that my students can read along with me. This will allow them to be more engaged and focused on the story. It will also allow us to use the book to work on various reading strategies.
