Big kids love to read and work in a comfortable space, too. Most flexible seating classrooms are for younger students, but I aim to make my classroom a place young adults see as an inviting area in which to learn. I have requested a futon sofa where students could comfortably read, write and create, as well as a new bookshelf where young adult novels can be prominently displayed. With a new futon, my English and journalism students would have a cozy place for all their reading and writing endeavors. The added bookshelf would replace the crates of books that are currently keeping attractive titles out of student view. I want books on display and accessible to all, and I envision both of these items creating a special reading nook in my classroom.
