Books are a great way to enhance students' love of learning and to increase their engagement in reading. Studies show that when students have books right at their fingertips, they are more likely to read. When students enjoy reading, they will continue to get better at it, which in turn enhances students' future opportunities. If I can get students to enjoy reading, then we can increase the amount of time they read. As you may know, the number one way we can boost our students’ academic proficiency is to have them read - a lot. In addition, recent studies show that reading can decrease stress and boost empathy. It is essential that students have books at their fingertips to read. This increases engagement and student interaction with books, and it is less disruptive to the class when students can find new reading material quickly. I would like to see the continued engagement that my students have had to date, by adding classroom sets and small group sets of books to my classroom library.
