Flexible seating has been proven through research to provide multiple benefits for an educational environment. The most notable benefits are: -Giving students the freedom of choice -Provision of movement -Creating a sense of community -Providing comfort -Easy access for collaboration -Sensory Input for students with special needs Time and time again research has shown that flexible seating allows students to feel like active, engaged scholars who are committed and invested in their education. This is no small task for an eight year old to accomplish and flexible seating assists with this daily. By allowing the students to sit more comfortably and freely, they will be able to remain engaged for longer periods of time. They will use these materials in my English Language Arts and Social Studies class. These subjects are historically difficult for students to master and rarely can be considered active (whereas science is typically very engaging through experimentation and math manipulatives assist in peaking student interest). The materials that I have requested will assist in providing flexible seating arrangements. In providing this I hope to use it daily to assist my students and to create a community of children who feel able and willing to grow and become life-long learners.
