Four-5th grade teachers sat down one day at a weekly planning meeting and discussed how we could make our reading standards more interesting. We all noticed that our students LOVED when we read to them, from our book of the month. How we could get them to love the stories from our curriculum as much as when we read out loud to them? Enter: The Fighting Ground! We are wanting to use The Fighting Ground (a fictional story that takes place during the revolutionary war, a Social Studies standard) to teach our Reading and Writing standards. The problem? We don't have a budget that can afford to buy 4-class sets of the book.
