There are many benefits in a classroom that allows flexible seating. First, flexible seating caters to the individual needs and learning styles of each student. Students who are expected to sit still in straight rows in uncomfortable chairs are less likely to be productive. Flexible seating addresses the physical needs and comfort of each student, heightening their chances of success. Second, flexible seating allows for areas in which students can collaborate with one another on assignments and in discussions. Furthermore, flexible seating provides students with a choice in their learning environment and contributes to a positive classroom culture where students' needs are the forefront. The items I have chosen will most certainly enhance each student's learning experience and success. The balance balls will address the needs of students who are constantly moving and need to burn off extra energy. Students will be able to use them at the table or away from it with just a clipboard. Students can choose to sit on the floor in the beanbag chairs or on the floor cushions. Whatever their selection, they will have comfortable options to choose from when entering the classroom each day. Each of the requested items selected are easily moved, allowing students to not only choose the type of seating but also a location in the room that works best for them. I know that students who have the freedom to make choices in their learning are more likely to be productive and succeed. It is my hope that it will also help them make other responsible choices regarding their education.
