People often say I have a challenging job. In the moment, as I do what I do, managing 8 students with multiple disabilities is something that seems second nature to me. Simple operations for an "average" middle school student, such as putting on a coat, opening a door,communicating their wants and needs and following two-step directions are skills that are acquired at an early age. My students are still learning how to perform simple life skills in hopes that it may give them more independence as they get older. Because of the complexities of my students' various needs, creative thinking is necessary, from a teacher's standpoint, to adapt and individualize mostly everything used during the school day; from instructional materials, classroom seating, sensory activities, eating, and navigating their school environment.
