These books, "The Hate U Give" and "The First Part Last", are 2 amazing reads that both my students of higher level and lower level reading will fall in love with. These books, deal with situations that many of my students see on a daily basis. Students will be able to develop a personal connection with the characters and be able to see how these characters preserved when everything was against them. Both novels will provide a way for students to engage in critical thinking and reflection as they read, discuss, and respond to books. They will collaborate every week and discuss new challenges the characters have faced in depth. Why read? Literature circles guide students to deeper understanding of what they read through structured, student led discussions and extended written and artistic responses.
