Our student body is made up of 51% Hispanic, 48% White and 1% other demographics. We are a traditional school which recently added a pre-kindergarten class. Our school staff has been trained in SIOP, GLAD, Daily Five, and the Cafe. All of these best practice methods are most powerful when non fiction is used. The students' language scores have been climbing each year because of the implementation of these methods. My students love to learn by interactions with objects and classmates. For some of my kindergarteners, this is the first time they interact with non fiction texts. They can not get enough.
