This past summer, I volunteered to be trained during the 2017-2018 school year in a program called “Reading Recovery”. I had heard about it before, but didn’t know much about it when I signed up to take this on. It is a literacy intervention designed to help young students who are behind their peers accelerate their progress in reading and writing. The purpose is to try to close the gap early on. I have been doing Reading Recovery with a first grade student with a developmental delay since the beginning of this school year, and I have seen AMAZING growth. I am now a firm believer in this program after seeing the results firsthand! With that said, since I am new to this program, I do not have many Reading Recovery-approved books to work with. I have been borrowing books from other teachers throughout this school year. If I received this grant, I would love to purchase some more books to start my own Reading Recovery collection of books to use as I continue teaching young students who are struggling to keep up in reading and writing. I need books that will appeal to a variety of interests and levels. Thank you for your time and consideration.
