The titles I have chosen for this project will be of interest to a variety of children with assorted academic skills and can help them increase their exposure to a variety of authors, ideas, and narratives, while at the same time allowing them the freedom to direct their own learning. The books on the list come from the 2018 Sunshine State Young Readers Award Books. The objective of this project is to create excitement for reading. Each month, participating students and teachers will read one of the selected titles. Our students will create visual advertisements for the book they have finished to encourage others on campus to read it. The SMS School News will air book chats to pique interest as well. Then we will meet before school to analyze and discuss the book. The book club will bring students together across grade levels, social backgrounds, and academic abilities. My goal is to create a safe environment for all participants so that they feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and connections about the novels.
