The materials needed will allow students to sit away from desks, which allows students to choose where they work and with whom. It also allows them to change their location and positions as needed. This has been proven to improve student performance in skills mastery. Students are expected to sit quietly all day, for hours on end doing work. Flexible seating allows for some choice as far as how and where students complete work and with whom (when appropriate). Free choice in seating will actually allow students to focus during independent work time, which will improve reading comprehension and confidence.
