Comfortable seating options within the classroom allows for students to have the opportunity to choose where they will learn best. It is important to causally implement choice in a student's day. My students would benefit from the chance to make a daily decision, like choosing where to sit, in order to increase their self awareness and independence. Many of my students have gone through school feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and stressed everyday because of the learning challenges they face. Including seating options such as couches and chairs that are reflective of most homes may improve a child's attitude and feelings towards school. These comfortable pieces of furniture allow the classroom be a place where students feel less anxious and defensive, and instead more relaxed. Having more comfortable "home-style" furniture may positively change a child's behavior and feelings associated with school which in return could increase a student's output at school as well as self-confidence.
