The classroom that I teach in is a 4th/5th grade Special Day Class of High Functioning children with autism. This proposal will also be shared with a 1st-3rd SDC HFA classroom. In total this proposal will affect 16 students. The spectrum of autism limits a child's ability to comprehend the social world around them. There is myself and two wonderful aides in the classroom to help the students understand curriculum and the world around them. We cover all subjects in the classroom and for the most part my children are on level for every subject. Through differentiated instruction we are able to motivate and push the children to learn. A big part of the day is spent on socialization and behavior coaching. We practice and model appropriate behaviors through role playing and games. With games, they can practice turn taking, winning, losing and conversation.
