We all deserve support and Chromebooks will allow me to give strategic support to my middle school special needs students 365 days a year. How? I can plan my lessons in Google Classroom, which they can access anywhere, anytime. This will give them a chronicle of all our learning. I can post mini-lessons in the form of videos so if they miss a day, the instruction is still accessible. They can create and store all of their written assignments in virtual folders, too. This saves paper! During the drafting and revision process, they can get immediate feedback from peers and me. Also, with Google add-ons they can benefit from speech to text software, which will allow students to speak their first drafts. This can help with writer’s block and remove barriers for those with processing and language-based learning issues. In addition, we can listen to books as we follow along. During the summer and/or when they move on to the next grade, they can still access the work we did. This way they can carry their lessons with them. Lastly, they will learn how to use Google Classroom, a resource used in many high school and college classrooms. This resource will help them to go beyond the classroom wall to reach academic goals and new learning heights.
