When my students arrive at school, they have a large amount of time before morning announcements and the beginning of their classwork. They enter the classroom, write in their planner, unpack, and get ready for their day. However, there is more than 30 minutes of time that my students can be engaged in something that not only uses their hands, but also warms up their brain. Morning STEM bins allow my students choices in which they can build, create, manipulate, and engage their minds as they begin their day. From building and engineering materials like LEGO bricks and Dominoes, to math manipulatives like dice and fraction discs, my students will be able to engage in STEM activities that will allow them to let the creativity flow. Other choices include board games like Battleship that reinforce the coordinate plane and graphing, Checkers that helps students think long-term strategy, and card games like Uno that allow students to work together to build community. The sky is the limit with morning STEM bins!
