For my little first graders, sitting in one spot, let alone hard chairs and desks, can be very challenging. While we utilize whole group time during math and science on the carpet, students also get the opportunity to work independently or with a partner to further their understanding of specific math and science concepts. With the use of flexible seating, students will be able to choose the best-fit spot for them that will allow them to work on their math and science comfortably. Students would have the option of using stability balls, pillows, back chairs, and other flexible options to best suit their learning needs. After whole group time, students will be given the opportunity to work through math problems and science questions many times at their desks. Desks and chairs are great for many learners, but I have a vast majority of learners who I find standing and wiggling to get comfortable. I often find myself assisting students in their concentration, allowing them to sit on the floor, or by finding a different spot around the room. By donating to our project, you will give students options to not only maximize their learning but to also make it a warming and welcoming environment to learn in. Students will be able to worry less about their seating and more about the learning that is taking place. Learning should not be limited to a chair and desk. Given the opportunity, students will be able to explore their academics through the comfort of their own classroom!
