"CHOICE-BASED ART EDUCATION regards students as artists and offers them real choices for responding to their own ideas and interests through the making of art."(http://teachingforartisticbehavior.org). This is a transition in our students' learning that offers immense differentiation that they have thrived with since January. We have opened centers such as Drawing, Painting, Collage, and Sculpture with our limited supplies and upcycled materials. My students have responded so well to the opportunity of making art in a new way. By teaching them to make choices, they are gaining independence and self-confidence in their decision making.
This style of art learning is great for this school setting: we do not have a large number of funds to provide full class sets of materials, but only need enough for small groups to rotate through. Even with that benefit, we are still lacking in funds to appropriately fund their exploration.
With a small set of brayers and printing plates, the students with an affinity for printmaking will be able to explore this medium further. With a small set of Keva planks, students interested in structures and building will be able to explore the balance and symmetry of architecture. With this purchase of clay, I will be able to offer clay exploration to the students passionate about this medium.
With your donation we can encourage these 21st century learners to foster their passions.
