The use of books is a regular occurrence in my classroom. Everyday students participate in focused sustained reading for 30 minutes. Certain days they have a skill attached to their reading and other days they must complete a independent reading worksheet based on their reading. Students are reading independent books everyday so that they can build stamina and increase their reading levels, while also reading things that entertain them. I've chosen books that students have asked to read and have shown an interest in reading. Creating a atmosphere where reading becomes a love for my students is my ultimate goal. They will have to read for the rest of their lives and showing them that reading can be enjoyable is a a way to get them to become lifelong readers in and out of school.
