Having hand drums and Djembe drums for my Classroom will enhance Story Time for every preschooler, making it their favorite time of the day! One Read Aloud that engages my students 100%, is Rumble in the Jungle, by Giles Andreae. It is a story that introduces jungle animals in a genius rhythmic pattern, and a story that invites all participants to experience the sounds of the jungle—from animal sounds to the wonderful African drum rhythms, which can only be experienced hands-on! Preschoolers love to hear stories come to life! But, when they literally get their hands-on an instrument and get to participate in the Read Aloud, they are totally engaged; they learn to listen (a vital prerequisite skill for Phonemic Awareness); they learn new vocabulary; they take a deep-dive into higher-order thinking; and most of all, they have fun in learning!
