It's a way to access knowledge, to foster empathy and kindness, to connect with a character going through a similar life experience. It's a way to escape from what can be a stressful world. Reading is woven through all core classes, and is a lifelong skill students need practice to perfect. By diversifying our classroom libraries, we allow students to connect with the rest of the world without ever having left the classroom. High interest books are the key to success with reluctant readers, and we need to provide those at school.
